Florida Mosquito Facts
They may be the most annoying and potentially dangerous bite of any common insect. Mosquitoes are widespread in Florida thanks to the warm climate and abundance of moisture.
We have all heard the news stories about Mosquitoes carrying Encephalitis in Florida and other diseases, like Malaria and Yellow Fever, around the world. The fact is most mosquito bites are going to itch and that’s about it. However, there is no doubt that there are risks associated with Mosquitoes and your defense against them is somewhat limited. Body repellents often help but rarely eliminate bites entirely. Fogs can help remove adult mosquitoes for a few hours, but that’s it. However, one thing you can do to minimize the problem is to make sure there is no standing water on your property. Mosquito larvae are born aquatic. So things like puddles, birdbaths, old buckets, fishponds, even catch pans under plants are prime mosquito breeding grounds. Eliminate these and you’ll lessen the likelihood of big problems.
